The Black Keys and Jack White are famous for their rivalry, but apparently they also have a common enemy: TMZ.
Their feud began last summer when White and his ex-wife Karen Elson were in the middle of a divorce and a private email was leaked. In the email, White voices his contempt for The Black Keys' frontman Dan Auerbach, stating that he doesn't like the idea of his children going to school with Auerbach's daughter.
"My concern with Auerbach is because I don't want the kids involved in any of that crap," he wrote. "You aren't thinking ahead. That's a possible twelve fucking years I'm going to have to be sitting in kids chairs next to that asshole with other people trying to lump us in together. He gets yet another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world."
Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney addresses the leaked email in an interview with Rolling Stone. He refers to White as "an asshole" but concedes that TMZ "should be f**king ashamed of themselves" for releasing his private emails.
"I actually feel embarrassed for him," Carney told Rolling Stone. "I don't hold grudges, man. I really don't. We've all said f**ked-up sh*t in private, and divorce is hard."
He continued, "Those e-mails that Jack White wrote that got leaked, as f**ked up as that sh*t is, that was a private conversation, and it doesn't register to me. You know how horrifying it would be if all of our private shit was aired? And people go sniffing around looking for this shit. And ultimately it's no one's business."
Auerbach refused to comment saying only, "I don't know him, so it's extra unexpected."
Considering both musicians have a similar fan base, maybe these guys can finally make up and be friends.
