It has been more than two years since R&B diva Whitney Houston passed away from an accidental death from drowning in a bathtub of hot water (with heart disease and cocaine listed as factors). Now her story is coming to the small screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, her biopic is set to air on Lifetime in 2014 and will be directed by actress Angela Bassett in her directorial debut.

The TV-movie, titled Whitney Houston, will chronicle the late icon's rocky relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown, from their meeting to their divorce.

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments, and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said in a statement. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

The Santisky Company will produce the film with Larry Santisky serving as executive producer and Shem Bitterman writing the script.

As THR notes, after Houston's death on February 12, 2012, Lifetime aired a 14-episode documentary series called, The Houstons: On Our Own, which followed Houston's family's struggle with her untimely death.

Casting choices for the film have not yet been released, but we will update you as more information becomes available.
