Taylor Swift had to cancel her sold-out show in Bangkok scheduled for June 9 due to Thailand coming under military rule last week after a coup d'etat, the country's 12th successful military takeover of the government.

As Billboard notes, concert promoter BEC-Tero announced on its website that the event had been canceled "due to recent events in Thailand," but didn't go into more detail. They called the cancellation "a difficult decision for all parties."

The concert also would have been in conflict with the new 10 p.m. curfew despite how loosely it has been enforced.

"I'm sending my love to the fans in Thailand," Swift tweeted. "I'm so sad about the concert being canceled."

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, the concert would have marked Swift's first performance in the country. They also note how Thailand has been a money-making destination for international pop stars, citing Justin Bieber's 2013 show and Avril Lavigne's Bangkok performance on February 11.

As the political situation get worse in the country throughout the past year, global acts began shying away from performing there. Eric Clapton, for example, cancelled his late February gig after an outburst of violence took over Bangkok, resulting in the deaths of four children and one adult.

Ticket holders for Swift's concert are able to refund their tickets beginning May 29.
