About five or so years ago, TMZ had a field day with covering John Mayer, mainly because the famed singer-songwriter always gave them gold in terms of material – whether it be his jokes or off-color remarks regarding other celebs. More recently, however, Mayer has kept to himself and stopped putting his foot in his mouth. Until now...

It seems the old John Mayer is coming back, and TMZ couldn't be happier. After his recent split from pop star Katy Perry, the celebrity news empire caught up with the musician in LA to discuss the fact that Perry is writing a song about him. But judging from his reaction – and noted history with singers such as Taylor Swift – he's no stranger to it.

Throughout the video, multiple cameramen incessantly prod Mayer with the hopes of getting something after asking about his exes who were "ganging up" on him. Mayer's response, however, was rather calm, "I have super strength for gang ups. I'm fine."

When asked if he was okay with his ex-girlfriends writing about him, it seemed the old TMZ favorite came out. He amusingly responded, "That's what you're supposed to do, man. You're supposed to write songs. You're not supposed to tell everybody you're doing it!"

Mayer continued, "I want everybody's song to go to number 1. I purposely stop writing hits to give other people a chance to have number 1 songs."

Mayer abruptly ended the exchange with, "Here's my Uber."

So, there you have it. If we didn't get anything else from this interaction we learned that John Mayer digs Uber.
