For the past few months, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been doing everything from appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to creating new side projects, inking deals to write autobiographies and even delighting fans all over the country with their "unplugged" performance at this year's Super Bowl.

The one thing they have not been doing, however, is recording a new studio album. But it appears that time is over... hopefully.

Recently, an Instagram video came to light that showed members of the band allegedly working on new music in a recording studio. And while the video leaves us hanging in terms of music – though you can hear a little bit of what their working on – what it does is deliver quick hits that show us something is brewing. For example, the video contains footage of Chad Smith nodding his head, Flea on bass and other random shots from within the studio walls.

The last time we saw the Chili Peppers together was during Chad Smith's much talked about drum battle extravaganza against comedian Will Ferrell on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show.

The band hasn't released a studio album since 2011's I'm With You, so the excitement coming as a result of this Instagram video dropping is rather understandable.
