Famed recording engineer Steve King – the man who brought us 2003's popular The Eminem Show – has died at the age of 56. King was also noted for having mixed Eminem's award-winning single, "Lose Yourself" from the artist's 8 Mile soundtrack.

The late engineer passed away at Harper University Hospital in his hometown of Detroit, where he had been hospitalized and released last month due to complications with his liver. However, regardless of his recent release, he was rushed to the hospital again early Tuesday morning and subsequently suffered internal bleeding.

King's position in the music industry was incredibly diverse, if anything. Having held a resume that included work with the likes of Eminem, Aretha Franklin, Patti Smith, George Clinton, 50 Cent and members of both D12 and G-Unit, it goes without saying that he'll be missed dearly by all within the industry. Joel Martin, owner of 54 Sound, describes working with King as "effortless." He goes on to say, "He could have had the biggest ego of anyone in that room, but you'd never know he was there. He had a way of melting into the background."

"I'm very sad to hear about Steve King's passing," says Eminem. I had the honor and pleasure of working with Steve on many projects in my earlier years and he was a greatly talented engineer, musician and friend. I will miss Steve's friendly way and sense of humor the most. My condolences go out to his family and all that knew Steve."

King's reputation remains one of immense admiration. He is survived by his wife Roberta, his son Nick, and stepchildren Kimberly Coppolino and Christopher VanderBerg.

A date for King's services is currently being determined, but Roberta King stated that the family is planning "a huge party to celebrate his life," just as he would have wanted.
