Lionel Richie had a pretty successful stint in the country world and to no surprise, he's promised a follow-up to 2012's Tuskegee

"It's coming," he told Rolling Stone backstage at this year's CMT Awards.

Richie and Luke Bryan took home the award for Performance of the Year for their duet mash-up of Richie's classics "Oh No" and "All Night Long."

As a former member of the Commodores, Richie's musical career is already quite extensive and he's not planning on stopping anytime soon with his new found inspiration in country music.

"You cannot not be inspired," Richie explained. "What I'm missing in the pop world and in the R&B world are great songs. And whether I want to admit it or not, country's writing songs that are sticking around for the next 400 years. They're writing music. And so, this is my heaven. When my record company came back and said, 'Would you consider another one? How do you feel about country?' I said, 'Well it's pop music to me.'  So I'm going to stay around here for a while. I love all of my new friends. My 'brand new old friends,' as I call them."

While he says he is still deciding on the album's features, Richie says fans can expect two big names for sure.

"Luke is there," he said. "Keith Urban. These are 'the guys,' as far as the next group I want to play with onstage. See, I always translate things to stage. You can't have that much fun backstage if you can't have it onstage. That's where I'm going right now."

Stay tuned for more details.
