Talk about hometown heroes.

Pharrell was recently gifted with the key to the city from his native Virginia Beach.

According to Vibe magazine, Pharrell received the award at his alma mater, Princess Anne High School, where he thanked his former teachers for their contributions to his success.

Mayor Will Sessoms took to Twitter to share some highlights from Pharrell's acceptance speech.

"Life is like a mosaic, with a bunch of pieces and @Pharrell says he is just one piece. He thx former teachers for being part of his success," he tweeted.

Pharrell also took to Twitter to thank Sessoms, saying he was "unbelievably honored" by the gift.

Up next for the super-producer are a BET Awards performance and a few summer festival dates, leading up to his Dear Girl Tour in Europe this fall.

Music Times recently reported that Pharrell would be among this year's performers at the awards show. He is also up for three nominations including Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.

He is also nominated for Video of the Year for "Happy" and Best Collaboration for "Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke and T.I.

Pharrell has most certainly had one heck of a year and it's only half way over but his latest award puts him against the likes of Dr. Dre

The new Apple executive was recently offered the key to his hometown of Compton, California.

According to TMZ, Mayor Aja Brown reached out to Dre's camp and asked Dre to help restore the city.
