Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher were married in 2010, and their marriage and her career are still blasting off like never before. She might not have the Twitter following of other female country artists, but she is certainly a talented vocalist.
Her new set of songs are diving into a darkness that we have not seen from Underwood yet. She has been edgy in the past, especially with her first couple singles coming off her American Idol win. This is a new kind of darkness, however. She is vague with her lyrics and explicit with her videos. More often than not, an artist would understand the point being made by her songs such as "Two Black Cadillacs" and "Blown Away" but when they song is coupled with the video, it couldn't be any more clear.
"Two Black Cadillacs" is a song that many would consider very dark. It is a story of two woman who apparently conspired to kill the man that decided he would love them both at the same time. The man didn't know that the women found out, but assuredly they did, because they decided that death was the proper punishment for infidelity in this dark story.
"Blown Away" is dark as well, only this time it is a tornado that has destroyed the man in the song. The video shows a man who is too drunk to get to shelter. Underwood even tries to wake the man up but to no avail. She ends up running for cover and leaving the man to die in the house that is being "Blown Away." We think the tornado is a metaphor in this story. That all of the things that this man is doing wrong is actually what is destroying Underwood's home. His drunkenness, his lies, his abusiveness are all blowing away her happiness, and that is what the metaphorical tornado is really saying.
