After the emotional performance of Kelly Clarkson on American Idol, Demi Lovato recently hit the stage with the show's Top 10 contenders, singing "Confident" and "Stone Cold." The singer is also set to be honored on the GLAAD Media Awards.
The pop star will be receiving the Vanguard Award at the forthcoming 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 2 in Los Angeles for her being a vocal advocate for LGBT.
The said award is being presented to "media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance." Past honorees for the same award are Kerry Washington, Kristin Chenoweth, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas, Drew Barrymore, Sharon Stone and Janet Jackson, Music News reported.
“Demi Lovato has consistently used her platform as a successful artist to send messages of acceptance and support to LGBT people everywhere,” GLAAD resident and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said according to Washington Blade.
Lovato's advocacy is credited to her late grandfather who was gay. Her “Really Don’t Care” music video in 2013 was filmed at an LGBT pride event and she also played a role for the fifth season of Glee as the love interest of Naya Rivera’s character, which she hopes will “inspire people ... to love who they are and accept who they are,” Variety reported.
The "Heart Attack" singer has previously served as an ambassador for the GLAAD's Spirit Day which is an annual anti-bullying campaign.
While her recent America Idol performance impressed fans, wherein most of them expressed their admiration in social media, the "Cool for the Summer" singer also talked about her upcoming Future Now tour with Nick Jonas in an interview with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.
"We wanted to be extremely interactive with all of the fans, and that comes down to the performances but also the smell when you enter the arena," she said, according to Rolling Stone. "Everything … And also we want to play new music, including me."
