FOX is about to get a little bit country. The network just announced plans to televise a new country music awards show alongside Cumulus Media and Dick Clark Productions. Step aside, CMT Awards; it's time for the American Country Countdown Awards.

The new awards ceremony, which takes its name from the famed radio countdown series currently hosted by Kix Brooks, will broadcast on December 15 in Nashville and plans to both highlight and honor the best names and acts in the country game, accompanied by performances from the artists as well. You know, like any awards show.

As exciting as the news is for the network, the introduction of the American Country Countdown Awards brings with it the end of FOX's first attempt to break into the country crowd: the American Country Awards (ACAs), which premiered in 2010.

Perhaps part of the reason for the ACAs demise is the fact that it's been held in Las Vegas since it's inception. Mind you, this is pure conjecture, but it seems if you're going to run a country music awards show, the best place to do so would be Music City – Nashville. Because of this, perhaps the network's new awards show already has some legs.

As an added bonus, on top of the chance to win an American Country Countdown Award, the show will hand out a Nash Icon award, which is named after Cumulus's Nash brand as well as a legacy label recently introduced with Big Machine Label Group.

So, will the American Country Countdown Awards top the ACAs? Not quite sure, but they're held in Nashville, so it's a good start!
