Those yearning for the old days, when DJ's didn't have a Macbook onstage with them during performances, will have multiple reasons to attend DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist's forthcoming "Renegades of Rhythm" tour.

First of all, it will be vinyl only. The pair—known for their respective solo work and Chemist's contributions to Jurassic 5—will use six turntables, a pair of mixers and a vintage drum machine to recreate the feel of classic dance/hip-hop concerts.

The choice of equipment has further purpose however: The pair are paying homage to Afrika Bambaataa, one of the godfathers of hip-hop. The DJ blended a mishmash of genres into his beats (he was, after all, searching for the perfect beat) and was among the first to use an 808 drum machine in his work. Shadow and Cut Chemist will only use vinyl from Bambaataa's personal collection onstage. Shadow's revered ....Endtroducing album proves his mixup capability.

How? The DJ's more than 40,000 albums are currently being held by Cornell University for digital archiving. Art collector Johan Kugellberg commissioned DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist to make a tribute mix for Bambaataa, and the inspiration was born. The pair should find plenty of fodder inside their idol's collection.
