In a new interview with GQ, Adam Levine addressed his public image and his rumored penchant for dating models but promises he isn't the d-bag that people think he is.

The Maroon 5 frontman told them that he is aware of the bad rep his dating history and extravagant living has given him.

"I'm not the easiest person to love right off the bat, you know," he said. "If I knew everyone in the world, they would love me. Every single last f**king one of them."

Levine opened up about what it was like trying to make it as a musician in the '90s when wanting a successful career was looked at as uncool. He also talked about what it was like to become successful and the perks that came along with it.

"There was a time in my life when I lived a probably a bit more on the primal level. And it was amazing," he admitted. "Men are not as sophisticated as women. They are not as connected with their emotions as women. There's a very Neanderthal quality that still exists in a lot of men. There's the carnal sh*t you can't deny."

Levine said he was just "out there having fun" but is aware that his past has stuck with him.

"I didn't give a sh*t, and I got burned for it," Levine said. "All of a sudden, I had money in my bank account. I hadn't had a break in a long time. And I went a little f**king nuts. You know?"

He continued, "And good. I deserved to go a little but nuts. And I had the time of my life. People change; people grow up, get more self-aware and in tune with all this sh*t."

The singer also is aware that people assume he only dates supermodels, considering his dating history, which includes models Nina Agdal, Anne Vyalitsyna, and Angela Belotte and now his fiancé, Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsaloo.

"I don't date what the person does. I date the f**king person. You know what I mean?" he said, adding, "Preference should never be looked down upon. Unless it's based on something really s--tty. I'm not saying I have a preference, but like, I want to date someone ... Listen, there are a lot of women in this country, in many countries, who date men for their money."

Levine also set the record straight that he never slept with Lindsay Lohan despite what her list of conquests said.

The ultimate message Levine seemed to want to get across was that he doesn't care if you like him but that he'd really prefer if you did.
