The members of the iconic Seattle grunge bands Soundgarden and Pearl Jam have announced that they will reform the supergroup Temple of the Dog to go on their first tour as a group. But aside from the tour, the band will also release a re-issue of their first and only studio album.

For the upcoming tour, the new lineup of Temple of the Dog will consist of Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam's Jett Ament, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Matt Cameron. However, it is not yet clear if Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, who provided lead and backup vocals in the band's self-titled album from 1991, will be part of the tour.

Although Pearl Jam and Soundgarden are already accomplished bands in the rock, alternative and grunge scenes, Cornell noted that he and the other Temple of the Dog members feel that going on tour is necessary. For them, going to different venues to perform for their fans is a huge way of paying tribute to the group which was originally formed in 1990.

"We wanted to do the one thing we never got to do ... play shows and see what it feels like to be the band that we walked away from 25 years ago," the 52-year-old rocker said in a statement according to Rolling Stone.

"This is something no one has ever seen," he added. "We wanted to stop and recognize that we did this and pay homage."

According to the band, the tour will have five dates and will begin on Nov. 4 at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The next stop will be at New York's Madison Square Garden on Nov. 7 followed by the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco, California on Nov. 11. On Nov. 14 and 20, Temple of the Dog will be at Los Angeles' The Forum and Seattle's Paramount Theater respectively, Billboard reported.

Aside from the tour, the band will also release a new version of its self-titled album from 1991. It will be available on Sept. 30 and can be pre-ordered from Temple of the Dog's website.

Both the tour and the re-issue of Temple of the Dog are part of the band's celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the album's original release.
