EDM is heading back to the big screen, at least the big screen in your homes. Netflix has released the trailer for their new film XOXO about the struggle of an up-and-coming EDM DJ and his experiences at a festival XOXO. In addition to the trailer, the film comes with a loaded soundtrack featuring the likes of Flume, Galantis, Skrillex, Diplo and others.
The film comes just a year after the debacle of We Are Your Friends starring Zac Efron, which had a historically bad debut in theaters. The oft-hyped film tried to capitalize on the American EDM explosion with a triumphant DJ story and missed the mark completely.
XOXO looks to avoid those same trappings, by honing in on one festival and the experiences by a few people, including one timid DJ set to perform, played by Graham Phillips and an attendee played Sarah Hyland. Others who will star in the film include Chris D'Elia, Brett DelBuono, Colin Woodell and Haley Kiyoko.
Will this be another We Are Your Friends? It is hard to tell since there won't be the same box office measuring sticks to compare with for Netflix, but we will see on Aug. 26 when the film is released.
To along with the film is a soundtrack that includes many old songs, but also some brand new ones, including a collaboration between Galantis and East & Young "Make Me Feel." Stream that below and pre-order the soundtrack before it is released on Aug. 26.
