For one reason or another, Linkin Park's co-frontman Mike Shinoda decided to call out a bunch of bands that he doesn't like, with some emphasis on Scottish electronic band Chvrches. The young band has responded, with singer Lauren Mayberry accusing Shinoda of attempting to garner some cheap promotion for Linkin Park's 2014 album, The Hunting Party, admitting, "this isn't the world's coolest musical feud."

This feud started when Shinoda, in a recent interview with NOISEY, badmouthed bands like Chvrches, HAIM, and Vampire Weekend.

"There's so much music out there; there's so much stuff that sounds like HAIM or CHVRCHES or Vampire Weekend that I'm full," he said. "The thing I'm hungry for is not that. I turn on the rock station in L.A. and it sounds like Disney commercial music. And I'm confused by that."

Speaking with Australia's Faster Louder magazine, he stated that the music of today is derivative, dropping other band names as he elaborated.

"I feel like there are a handful of bands that are the parent bands of almost everything that's going on. It's like everything that's going on out there is like some combination of Mumford & Sons, M83, MGMT, Arcade Fire and maybe like four or five other bands," the Nu-Metal rapper said. "I feel like every time I hear a new - quote, unquote, 'new' - rock band it's just some derivative version of that stuff. And that's the thing that annoys me."

While appearing on Swiss TV show joiz, the members of Chvrches were asked about Shinoda's comments and responded accordingly.

"It's not a coincidence that his band has a record to sell and he mentions several bands that people are writing about," frontwoman Laura Mayberry said. "But if you're going to go into it I don't really like being called a sell-out by the guy who wrote the music for the MTV VMA's. Just saying."

"Live and let live. I will continue to probably not buy Linkin Park albums," she added.

Since this feud has blown up this week, which Faster Louder has dubbed "the great indie-pop vs nu-metal battle of 2014," Shinoda took to his blog to better explain his comments. He said that his comments were taken out of context and that he does enjoy the music of Chvrches and the other bands he put down.
