The official trailer for the Jimi Hendrix biopic has been released.

Jimi: All Is By My Side stars Andre 3000 of Outkast as the famed guitar player and according to the Shadow and Act film blog, XLrator Media has decided on a September 26 theatrical release date.

As previously reported, the film was slated to be released on June 13 and August 8 in the UK.

Directed by 12 Years A Slave co-screenwriter John Ridley, the film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall. SXSW in Austin housed the U.S. debut back in March.

It is one of many biopics faced with controversy during production. Sadly, this project did not receive the approval of Jimi Hendrix's estate to use any of his original songs.

Reps for the estate accused the filmmakers of moving forward with the project without their official consent.

Similar issues reportedly arose during the production for a film based on the life of late R&B singer Aaliyah.

Disney star Zendaya was slated to portray the singer but ultimately dropped out of the role.

"Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya," a source said. "She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right."

As for Hendrix's biopic, the film will highlight his early career, from his start as a New York City backing musician to the time right before his breakthrough performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
