The Houston Symphony invites you to boldly go where no symphony audience has gone before, when it performs the film scores of J.J. Abrams' recent Star Trek movies while the blockbuster films are shown on a huge screen suspended above the orchestra.
These Houston Symphony performances on July 18 and 19 mark the U.S. premiere of these two films with live orchestra. Conductor Constantine Kitsopoulos will lead the orchestra and chorus in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek (2009) on Friday, July 18, and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) on Saturday, July 19. Both performances will take place at Jones Hall in Houston.
The live musical performance is designed to synchronize perfectly with the film and blend in with the dialogue and sound effects, creating a thrilling movie-watching experience as audiences witness composer Michael Giacchino's scores recreated live before their eyes.
Although the orchestra may often be overshadowed by the loud sound effects of these action-packed movies, live music should add a greater sense of drama to these tales of the early adventures of the crew of the Enterprise.
