As previously reported, the woman who accused Conor Oberst of rape admitted that she had been lying. Now, Oberst has responded to Joan Elizabeth Harris' (a.k.a. Joanie Faircloth) apology.

"I have accepted Joanie Faircloth's apology and retraction to clear my name," he explained in a statement. "This has been extremely difficult and stressful for me personally and for those I love. I'm appreciative of the family, friends, fans, and business partners who supported me throughout this and look forward to happier times as we all move forward with our lives."

According to Oberst's representatives, Faircloth's apology was made after seven months attempting to reach her.

Faircloth first accused Oberst of rape via a now-deleted anonymous comment on the post "It Happened To Me: I Dated A Famous Rock Star & All I Got Was Punched In The Face," published on the website XOJane.com back in December. She alleged that she was introduced to Oberst backstage at a concert 10 years ago and that he raped her.

Oberst vehemently denied the claims and subsequently sued for $1.2 million for defamation.

It was recently revealed that the allegations had a negative impact on Oberst's most recent album. It was also reported that he had been dropped by his record label, but that was later found to be untrue.

Now that Faircloth has come clean, however, it appears that Oberst is ready to move past this unfortunate incident.
