It's Gonna Be May: *NSYNC was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, April 30.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Justin Timberlake, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez were all present at the ceremony held at Hollywood Boulevard. They accepted the 2,363rd five-pointed terrazzo and brass star from Leron Gubler, the president of Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who presided the awarding and declared Monday as NSYNC Day in Hollywood.

Television hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Carson Daly were also present to introduce the five-member boy band who were fixtures of the '90s music scene.

"Of course the band is made up of the cute one, the bad boy, the sensitive one, the sexy one, and Joey," joked DeGeneres during her speech. "I am happy that you're being honored here today, look at the people here who honor you and support you, you inspire all of these people. Congratulations to all of you, and Joey."

Daly also took a jab at the boys' questionable hairstyles and had some good jokes at Fatone's expense.

"I was one of the very lucky people who got to hang out with these guys when the whole world wanted to hangout with them," said the former host of MTV's TRL. "And, keep in mind, this was time when Justin's perm was the envy of poodles and sheep everywhere, Lance was known for dating actresses not actors, JC has discovered the fountain of youth apparently, Chris was rocking cornrows and braids, and of course I spent most of my time with Joey, because he was 25 years older than the rest of the guys."

Timberlake took the podium to thank his band members, his mother, and his wife, Jessica Biel. Meanwhile, fans not only cheered for the group, but also sang some of the boy band's greatest hits.

Addressing Their Meme Status

The boys also pointed out the timing of the awarding ceremony. To the delight of fans, Chasez went up onstage, grabbed the mic, and declared: "It's gonna be May!"

The line was, of course, a misheard lyric from the song "It's Gonna Be Me." The line now has a life of its own and appear on various social media channels every year.

Fatone revealed to Variety that Bass was first to bring the meme to their attention. They all thought it was pretty funny and wanted to capitalize on it.

"What we should do is capitalize on this and make shirts that say 'It's gonna be May,'" he said. "Why not?"

Bass added that awarding of their Walk of Fame star was originally scheduled a month ago to coincide with NSYNC's 20th anniversary tour. It was fate that Timberlake had a performance scheduled on the day and the band had to move the ceremony to the next available date... April 30, the day of the meme.
