Disney uploaded the official music video of Christina Aguilera's song "Loyal Brave True" to promote the upcoming live-action adaptation of Mulan.
The music video has over 400m views, 32k likes, and 2k comments as of this writing. Aguilera is seen wearing a black and red gown with prominent curving flows. Behind her are random clips of Mulan's life depicted in faint shadow figures.
The official music video came five months after a first lyric video of the song. In that video, Mulan actress Liu Yifei is holding a Chinese sword while the lyrics fade in and out as Aguilera sings. The official lyric video had 7m views, 142k likes, and 4k comments.
The song is most likely about Mulan performing warrior duties to save her father and family's honor. The chorus goes, "should I ask myself in the water what a warrior would do? tell me underneath my armor, am I loyal, brave, and true?"
Aguilera is known to have won five Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy Award, and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She is considered one of the world's best-selling musicians.
Under her belt are five No.1 songs in the Billboard charts with "Genie in a Bottle," "What A Girl Wants," "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)." Her other collaborative chart-toppers are Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger" and "Lady Marmalade" with Lil'Kim, Mya, and P!nk.
Moreover, this wasn't the first time that Aguilera worked with Disney on Mulan.
In the 1998 animated movie depicting the Chinese heroine, the Grammy award songwriter sang "Reflection" during the end credits.
This is not to be confused with the version in the film performed by Filipina singer-actress Leah Salonga, the singing voice of Mulan. Additionally, the film voice actress for the Disney princess is Agents of SHIELD actress Ming-Na Wen.
The film was supposed to be released last March, but the launch date was moved due to the pandemic. Mulan will premiere on September 4 on Disney+.
