Grimes, a Canadian Songwriter and musician has been known for her art that has revolved around the themes of Artificial Intelligence and futuristic ideas. On Wednesday, the singer brought to TikTok, a video-based social media platform her thoughts on how A.I could be the "fastest path" to forming a communist society.
As per Rolling Stone, the video has since then garnered about 1.7M views leaving viewers with mixed sentiments about her and her opinions.
Grimes begins the video with a blatantly political overture: "I have a proposition for the communists.", she says with a manga Berserk- themed TikTok Background. She then says that although most of the communists she knows are not big fans of A.I., "A.I is actually the fastest path to communism, if you think about it."
The singer explains that "if implemented correctly, A.I. could actually theoretically solve for abundance." "Like, we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work; everybody is provided for with a comparable state of being, comfortable living. A.I. could automate all the farming, we could out systematic corruption, thereby bringing us as close as possible to genuine equality." She affirms that A.I can replace all forms of human labor wherein "nobody" has to work anymore, thus giving everyone a comfortable state of existence. Consequently, all farming would be automated and systemic corruption would be diminished. This is how she describes a societal state of "genuine equality." She ends her statement by saying, "So basically, everything that everybody loves about communism, but without the collective farm. 'Cause, let's be real, enforced farming is really not a vibe." The singer presupposes that A.I. can be the fastest path to reaching a communist society without the inherently exploitative practices of some communist states such as enforced farming. Twitter user femboy Enthusiast was quick to point out about the latter. "Did she forget who the man she has a kid with."
Many believe that Musk, who recently got the World's Richest Man title, as per Bloomberg, would likely oppose a government-sanctioned and freely available A.I for all due to his predominantly capitalist ideals. Grimes hasn't responded to any comments about this contradiction yet, although many believe the singer should have a voice about social issues of her own.
