Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes is a yet-to-be-released collection of songs based on 'lost' Bob Dylan lyrics from the singer's 1967 Basement Tapes sessions.

The list of musicians performing songs is long and impressive: Elvis Costello, Jim James, Taylor Goldsmith and Marcus Mumford are some of the contributors helping out with the T Bone Burnett-produced record.

But there's one name that doesn't belong, according to NME.

Johnny Depp plays guitar on "Kansas City." Yeah. That Johnny Depp.

The movie star was watching rehearsals at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles when Costello informed the group he was unable to make that particular session. So Depp stepped in on the six-string with no reported issues.

The artists involved have already created music for at least 24 unfinished Dylan songs, NME reports. The album is projected for a fall release, and will be complemented by Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued, a documentary directed by Sam Jones.

"The discovery of these previously unknown Bob Dylan songs that were thought lost since 1967 is the stuff of Hollywood fiction and a find of truly historical proportions," Jones told NME. "It is a unique opportunity to film T Bone and these great artists as they collaborate with a young Bob Dylan, and each other, to create new songs and recordings. These days and nights in the studio have been nothing less than magical."

Burnett added his piece:

"Great music is best created when a community of artists gets together for the common good," he said. "There is a deep well of generosity and support in the room at all times, and that reflects the tremendous generosity shown by Bob in sharing these lyrics with us."

Announced in March, the project still has no official tracklist or release date.
