Despite being one of the most successful musicians in the industry, Jerry Cantrell of "Alice in Chains" is still pressured to put out new music for his fans; here's why.

According to Loudwire, the musician's first solo album titled "Boggy Depot" was released in 1998. He later released "Degradation Trip" in 2002.

After a fruitful solo career, he later joined "Alice in Chains" again after the band recruited William DuVall to replace Layne Staley.

Ever since, the singer focused on being a band member, until 2021 when he released "Brighten," his first solo material since then.

Speaking to the outlet's "Loudwire Nights" with Toni Gonzalez, Cantrell mentioned that he still feels the pressure whenever he's making new material for his fans.

He mentioned that the feeling "never changes" because it's what keeps him driven and motivated.

"I think if you've had some success in your past, I think that's an even more motivating thing because you wanna keep that going," he mentioned.

He added that there's an audience waiting for him that is "receptive" to what he's saying and to what he's been releasing.

However, there are limitations. Cantrell gave fans a piece of advice, saying they should make sure that what they're putting out there is satisfying.

Secondly, he had to look back at his previous music releases and ask himself if it's worth adding to what he has done in the past.

"Thankfully, I've answered yes on that every time. I imagine when the answer is no, it's probably time to hang it up," he added.
