Eddie Vedder revealed his previous COVID-19 diagnosis and shared it almost caused him to be out of the limelight for good.

Vedder looked well and healthy when he recently wrapped his solo tour. But he made a shocking revelation to his fans present at his Los Angeles show on Friday.

The Pearl Jam frontman told his fans that he contracted the COVID-19 virus recently, and he described his state as pretty serious since he fell "very ill."

"I got the COVID right before we were supposed to start practicing, probably five, six weeks ago, and literally saw my life flash in front of my eyes," he said, as quoted by People. "I wasn't quite sure...because I've done some very good things for my body, and I've also had a lot of fun. And I've done some things that could be ... some kind of abuse, I mean, nothing really clinical."

Vedder seemingly could not describe his experience exactly and clearly that he asked the fans to use their imagination instead. However, he did note that it felt pretty serious that he felt nothing but honor when he managed to beat the virus.

Eddie Vedder Lucky to Be Alive

Vedder's comment came after the Pearl Jam frontman honored and paid tribute to Mark Lanegan during his Seattle concert.

On PearlJamOnline's YouTube channel, the singer admitted that his body started shaking a little upon learning Lanegan's death.

"You know, there are a lot of really great musicians, some people know Seattle because of the musicians that have come out of the great Northwest. Some of those guys were one-of-a-kind singers. Mark was certainly that and with such a strong voice," he said, as quoted by Variety.

Mark Lanegan's cause of death remains unknown. But like Vedder, the singer reportedly suffered a severe case of COVID-19 that left him in a coma.

He was reportedly admitted to a hospital in March 2021, and the late singer detailed his experience in the memoir he released before his death, "Devil in a Coma." The Screaming Trees co-founder added that he became deaf while fighting the dreaded virus.

Fortunately, he felt better before the year ended.

A spokesperson for Lanegan also confirmed that the singer got his hearing back, but he still suffered from fluctuating health in the past months.

Mark Lanegan once worked with Queens of the Stone Age while pursuing his career as a soloist.
