MC5 will start to headbang once again after taking a bow in 1972.

Before the new generation's rock bands debuted, MC5 served as one of the founding groups in the history of punk rock. Despite the huge demand for rock music at that time, the group called it quits in 1972 after releasing three albums.

But things came back to life recently as Wayne Kramer confirmed the band's return.

On Wednesday, the rocker confirmed that MC5 is about to drop two new singles, an album, and a national tour for their "We Are All MC5." Although it took them five decades to come back, the guitarist revealed what inspired them to make music as a group again.

"We've just barely survived four catastrophic years of a failed presidency and a devastating pandemic. It had become so polarized and depressing that bringing in other writers was like a hope injection," he said, as quoted by Billboard.

Kramer then mentioned that Tom Morello, Kesha, Tim McIlrath, Jill Sobule, and Alejandro Escovedo all helped him expand the work again by reigniting the rock band's weapon: their creativity.

What People Should Expect on MC5

MC5's return came as a shock, but the rock band seemingly did it again following their recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. According to Iggy Pop, MC5 indeed belongs to the Rock Hall for their charismatic and influential music. He also warned that there is no band "as dangerous as MC5."

Their new songs, "Heavy Lifting" and "Edge of the Switchblade," will feature Kramer and the other surviving original member, Dennis Thompson. Kramer also expressed his excitement to get back in the studio alongside Bob Ezrin, as well.

Meanwhile, "We Are All MC5" will also compose of eight shows through the first half of May. It will begin in Detroit before moving on to the East and West Coast. Kramer will perform alongside Brad Brooks, Stephen Perkins, Vicki Randle, and Stevie Salas.

"Nonstop touring, especially the last decade, I've come to understand that the music of the MC5 is as necessary as ever," Kramer went on. "It's definitely high time to write and record new songs and to carry a message of uncompromising hard rock to fans around the world."

The tour will end on May 15 at Soda Bar in San Diego, California.
