After almost three decades together, Foo Fighters has been one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, and they won't be successful without the help of a key member, the late drummer Taylor Hawkins.

As revealed in an episode of Rolling Stone Music Now, the late musician was the one who pushed frontman Dave Grohl and his bandmembers to go bigger as a live act because they started as a small group in 1994.

Speaking in the episode on June 15, 2021, the afternoon before going into their first show since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Hawkins recalled telling the group that they got to be a "f****** arena rock band."

He also pushed the band to be the best they could be as he instructed them to "practice more" and be keen on small details.

"We got to have better lights. We got to do that. We got to make it a show, you know?" And that's me. I come from Queen and Van Halen and stuff, as well as the Police. And Dave comes from that too, just in a different way," he said. (via Rolling Stone)

Hawkins was referring to Dave Grohl's previous band, Nirvana, in which he served as a drummer.

At the time, the musician referred to their conversation as "casual" because they weren't big as they are today and couldn't play in arenas.

However, their lives changed when their dreams became a reality as they slowly took over the world, starting by playing in an arena during their "One by One" era in 2002.

Taylor Hawkins Death

In early reports, the famed Foo Fighters drummer passed away on Friday after complaining that he was experiencing chest pains in his hotel room hours before a scheduled performance in Colombia.

The paramedics were able to go to his room, but they were unsuccessful in resuscitating him.

According to the Attorney General's Office of Colombia, the musician had several substances in his system like opioids, benzodiazepines, THC, and tricyclic antidepressants.

The National Institute of Legal Medicine is doing its best to determine Hawkins' cause of death.

A few days after his passing, a representative for Foo Fighters confirmed that the band wouldn't be performing at this year's Grammy Awards.

According to Billboard, the band was initially scheduled as one of the ceremony's performers.

Jack Sussman said the group needs time to deal with the tragedy that "has impacted their family."
