Over the past years, there have been countless bizarre marketing strategies that singers pull off to tease or promote their music. The latest one is Shakira, but fans are not sure whether her latest move is intentional or not.

Taking to a Reddit page, an eagle-eyed fan with the username spikethroughmyheart shared a video link of Shakira's "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" music video.

The thumbnail appears to be normal at first, but when online users look at it closely, a figure of a robot can be seen in the background.

The Football World Championship song isn't the only music video that featured the cryptic robot in its thumbnail. Other songs include "Hips Don't Lie," "GIRL LIKE ME," and more.

At the time of this writing, neither Shakira, her management, nor Vevo has commented on the matter, but fans on the community platform shared their guesses on the strategy.

Reddit Fans Speculate on Shakira's Cryptic Robot

After the post became popular on the platform, many people speculated about the robot's purpose.

Some fans guessed that the cryptic robot could mean a possible NFT (non-fungible token) collaboration that will drop anytime soon.

Many celebrities and musicians have been diving into the world of NFT, like Shawn Mendes, Paris Hilton, Eminem, Lindsay Lohan, and more.

Other fans suggest that Shakira is entering her "electropop" era, which could feature a brand new sound from the singer as fans were used to hearing her sing pop rock Latin.

Some users are worried that the singer's account might be hacked as a number of musicians' Vevo accounts were hacked last week.

Hacked Artists on YouTube

Although Shakira didn't announce whether she was hacked or not, many singers were a victim of a hacking incident last week.

According to the New York Post, the YouTube channels of singers like Eminem, Justin Bieber, and Drake- who have a collective 145 million subscribers- were reportedly hacked by an unknown source.

Aside from the three, artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Michael Jackson, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd, Harry Styles, and more appeared to be hacked.

Vevo then issued a statement, saying they would review their security systems.

There were videos uploaded to their respective channels by an unauthorized source during the incident.

The company has since deleted the videos.
