Like Gunna and Young Thug, it looks like Yak Gotti will still be behind bars until his upcoming trial. The rapper was involved in the sweeping indictment that led to the arrest of 28 members of the YSL (Young Slime Life) gang.

Gotti was accused that he and other members of the Atlanta-formed gang had conspired to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

The rapper, formally known as Deamonte Kendrick, recently had his bond hearing.

Yak Gotti Denied Bond For Jail Release, Remains Behind Bars Until Trial

After weeks of anticipation since their arrest earlier this May, Yak Gotti, Young Thug, and Gunna were among the most prominent members of the YSL Gang, who were hit with felony charges, among others.

All Hip Hop reports Gotti, who appeared today in court for his bond hearing, was denied bond for jail release, the same ruling as his fellow members in the gang.

Kendrick's legal team has argued that the court was "wrong" in using the rapper's song lyrics against him in court. Jay Abt, his lawyer, even said that this decision had a "chilling effect" on the music industry of Atlanta, Georgia.

"He is signed to a nationally recognized recording label. He's had one platinum and two gold records. He's got a child who is 7 years old, Dawson, who he helps to raise with that child's mother. He's lived in Atlanta his whole life. He's got a lot of community support. Friends, family, business associates," Abt insisted.

Yak Gotti Caught Using Cellphone In Jail

On the other hand, prosecutors countered back and accused Kendrick that he had still been participating in gang activity despite his arrest in May.

The rapper was allegedly caught using another inmate's code to use the phone inside the jail.

The phone was used to conspire to sneak another phone inside the Cobb County Jail. Despite his success, authorities have nabbed the phone. Kendrick also admitted that he had conspired to commit murder but did not elaborate further.

Like Gunna and Young Thug, Judge Ural Glanville has denied the rapper of bond for jail release as he is a danger to witnesses and might attempt to flee. His trial was also set for January 2023, the same month as his fellow gang affiliates.
