Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü alarmed fans with an update about his health.
Norton made fans worry about his health months after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The bassist revealed on his Facebook page, saying that he learned about his health issue in June but has not publicly talked about it until recently.
He assured his fans that his doctors at the Mayo Clinic think he has excellent odds against the illness, but he reportedly needs to proceed with treatment and surgery as soon as possible.
Because of his recent revelation, he has to cancel their appearance in the upcoming UltraBomb in England and Scotland. The fall tour's dates are also affected to allow himself to recover.
"My sincere apologies to those who had tickets purchased or who were planning on attending our upcoming shows across the pond. I am frustrated, as I know you may be feeling disappointed or upset. I was really hoping to be sharing how excited I was to be coming back to play England for the first time in 35 years!" he said, as quoted by Guitar World.
He did not detail what type of prostate cancer treatment he needs to undergo, but the National Cancer Institute listed several ways to control or fight the disease. The treatments vary depending on the stage, including surgery, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and bisphosphonate therapy, to name a few.
There are also new types of treatments like cryosurgery, proton beam radiation therapy, high-intensity-focused ultrasound therapy, and photodynamic therapy.
Greg Norton's Friends Let Him Know He's Not Alone in The Battle
After revealing the diagnosis, Norton's friends immediately launched a GoFundMe page to assist the bassist and his family in his treatment.
"We can't imagine the stress and anxiety he and his family must be going through. One thing that's for sure, though, is that the cost of treatment in the United States is eyewatering. We want to help alleviate some of that pressure, so we've decided to set up a GoFundMe account to collect money for Greg to put towards his treatment," the page says.

The "Help Greg Norton cover his medical treatment" already reached $43,230 as of press time - more than the $30,000 goal. Over 1,200 donors have already helped the musician.
Norton became part of Hüsker Dü from its debut in 1979 until the split in 1988. After his stint with the band, he chose to manage a restaurant in Red Wing, Minnesota, and worked as a wine dealer instead.
Years later, he returned to music with Gang Font and UltraBomb.
