It's unclear why Vanilla Ice was throwing out the first pitch at a Milwaukee Brewers game on Saturday night.

Ice (real name: Robert Van Winkle) is not from the Midwest, he hasn't released any new music in three years, and his feature-film acting career appears to have flamed out with 2010's Big Money Rustlas (he played "Heckler No. 3").

The only tangible pop culture connection to Vanilla this week was the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a movie franchise for which he wrote the infamous "Ninja Rap" many moons ago.

In fact, the rapper went on record this week to throw shade at the new theme song "Shell Shocked," by Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J and Ty Dolla $ign.

"With respect to all of the artists, the song doesn't really do it for me," he told SPIN. "It feels a little artificial. What I mean by that is that it sounds like a bunch of executives in the corporate world put it together. It really does not fit the theme of the Ninja Turtles legend."

Still, all of that is a bit of a stretch for the Brewers PR department.

The only real explanation: People think it's funny when Vanilla Ice shows up to events. He's done several sports halftime shows over the past few years, and does his best to bask in the limelight when he gets a chance.

Saturday night, he got that chance when the Brewers invited him to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

Wearing a retro uniform, Ice tossed a weird-looking pitch that went straight over the plate. Afterward, he stepped into the dugout to take a picture with Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, but assistant coach Ed Sedar decided to pull off a photobomb.

The best part? Ice didn't even notice anything. He even waved goodbye to Sedar as if the coach had been sitting on the bench the entire time.
