Panic! At The Disco looks back to its past with its new track "Local God," released Aug. 5, and looks forward to performing at MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) 2022.

"Local God" is set to be a part of the pop rock band's newest LP, "Viva Las Vengeance," which will be released on Aug. 19.

On Aug. 3, the band released a snipped of "Local God," with the caption "Become a local god! Learn guitar."

Bredon Urie returns to Panic! At The Disco's humble beginnings with "Local God." He sings, "You had so many chances to become a star/But you never really cared about that."

He continues with the chorus, "You'll live forever as a local god/It's even better than the thing you're not/Local god."

Produced with Jake Sinclaire and Mike Viola in Los Angeles, "Local God" is the song that sets the tone for Urie's seventh LP, "Viva Las Vengeance," which is about him reflecting on his past, 17 years ago.

"I didn't realize I was making an album, and there was something about the tape machine that kept me honest," Urie said

A long time coming

In 2019, Urie shared in an interview with Billboard that he was "taking more time off" but was still in the works of "starting music."

"Not with anything planned in mind, but just working on some ideas. I can't help myself, so I don't think it'll be too long before another Panic! Record," he said.

Alongside "Local God," Panic! At The Disco has released two other singers prior;  "Viva Las Vengeance," the title track in June, and "Middle of A Breakup" in July,

"[...] The fine line between taking advantage of your youth, seizing the day, and burning out," he added.

The release of "Viva Las Vengeance" marked Urie's return to the music scene since his last release in 2018.

Panic! At The Disco was announced to be included in the 2022 MTV VMA for the first time since their performance in 2018 with "High Hopes," where they are set t perform "Middle Of A Breakup."
