Elton John has been a big part of British pop culture for decades as he's considered to be one of the country's most iconic stars. The singer had been invited to some of the biggest events hosted by the Royal Family including the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.

Recently, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 and Elton consider it a sad day that's why he paid tribute to the longest-reigning monarch during his concert.

According to E! News, the "Tiny Dancer" hitmaker performed at his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" in Toronto, Canada, where he addressed the crowd regarding Her Majesty's death.

During his speech, he noted that finding out about the Queen's death was "the saddest news" he received that day.

Elton further shared that the late monarch was an "inspiring presence to be around" and it's fantastic to be around her over the years.

"She led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, decency and a genuine care and warmth," he added.

The songwriter is currently 75 years old and he explained that the Queen has been with him all his life. Now that she departed, Elton said he feels "very sad" that she won't be with him anymore.

However, he noted he's glad that the monarch is "at peace" and "at rest" because she deserves it after working "bloody heart" through her 70-year reign.

After addressing the crowd, he performed the song "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me."

Elton John's Connection to the Royal Family

Last year, Elton John received a big honor from one of the members of the Royal Family for his contribution to the music industry and working for his AIDS-centered charity.

According to Reuters, the Queen's eldest son, now-King Charles III, gave the singer an elite royal honor during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Aside from the global icon, other stars like David Hockney, Paul McCartney, J.K. Rowling, and Judi Dench were also awarded the same honor.

Queen Elizabeth II Dead at 96

The world was shocked yesterday after the Royal Family announced that Queen Elizabeth II had passed away at the age of 96.

Per the outlet, the longest-reigning monarch died at her Scottish estate, Balmoral Castle. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by family members.

Her eldest son, King Charles III, is now United Kingdom's monarch.
