Eminem might be one of the most legendary artists in the hip hop scene today after releasing iconic hits throughout his career, but he recently revealed that he struggled during his early years which he considers as his "lowest point."

In an interview with XXL Magazine, the "Rap God" hitmaker said he wanted to be a "respected MC" in the field for him to make enough money to survive his life and he also doesn't want to work a regular job to do so.

Despite experiencing the worst moment of his life, the 49-year-old star has a "competitive spirit" that he mixed with "lyricism" making it his biggest weapon.

Before signing with Dr. Dre and Interscope Records, he spoke to Royce who referred him to a hip-hop label that said they wanted to sign him.

He produced four tracks to submit it to the company, but they later found out that the man just worked in the mail room and wasn't the person who initially presented himself.

At that point, he lost all hope of becoming a recording artist in the hip-hop industry.

"I was at the lowest point. I didn't even know what I was going to do because it didn't look like it was going to happen," he said. (via Hip Hop DX)

In addition, he was only 24 years old and taking care of his baby at the time; all he ever wanted to do was write and rap music, but he was "super depressed" due to the incident.

How Did Eminem's Career Skyrocket?

Despite his depressive stage, Eminem didn't give up and continued reaching for his dreams. He started getting known within the Detroit community by joining rap battles.

He later struck a deal with F.B.T. Productions that produced his first album "Infinite." However, it wasn't a success either as it failed to gain popularity and flopped within the commercial scene.

To further hone his skills and attempt to enter the world of mainstream music, he created his alter ego Slim Shady, a different personality who raps aggressively and violently.

He then released the "Slim Shady" EP years later which got the attention of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.

Finally, all his hard work paid off as he got a record deal with Interscope records.

Today, the rapper is considered one of the most iconic musicians and will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 5 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
