Sir Elton John has a surprise for fans as it was announced that he would be performing at the White House later this week according to a press release.

The legendary British icon will be performing on the South Lawn of the presidential residence this Friday. A large tent is currently being built around the location that would accommodate over 2,000 guests.

A White House official confirmed the news to CNN, saying the concert has been in the works for months now.

The special performance is titled "A Night When Hope and History Rhyme." The concert is said to be a collaboration with The History Channel and A&E Networks.

Fans will have a chance to watch the show on television soon, but the official date and network have not yet been announced.

According to a press release, the event aims to celebrate the "unifying and healing power of music." In addition, it would honor many workers from different fields such as teachers, mental health advocates, nurses, students, frontline workers, and many more.

President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden would also be present at the event to address the crowd.

This will not be the first time the "Your Song" hitmaker would play at the White House as he was previously invited by former President Bill Clinton in 1998 to perform in front of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at a State Dinner.

The official also confirmed that Elton John's team "expressed an interest on his behalf in playing again at the White House."

The "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" hitmaker is currently in the United States for his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour. His next show would be at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 22.

The day after his show at the White House, he will perform at the Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

Elton John, President Joe Biden's Connection

President Joe Biden previously published his memoir in 2017 titled "Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose" where he revealed his connection with the legendary musician.

He wrote in the book that he used to listen to the singer's music with his children Beau and Hunter.

After his son Beau was diagnosed with brain cancer, the President would sing some of John's songs to him as he recovered in the hospital.
