Natalie Imbruglia donned army trousers in the music video for  "Torn" because, at the time, she was "very body dysmorphic and insecure." The hit 90s song has become something akin of a classic song - everyone knows it, but actually houses this deep, dark secret of the singer.

The 47-year-old pop artist has confessed that she refused to wear a dress in the promotional video for her 1997 single because she did not want to display her figure.

She told The Independentthat the army pants weren't even stylish; they weren't fashionable or anything.

She explained that her purpose in wearing that was to conceal her silhouette, as she did not wish for anyone to see me. Androgyny was viewed as cool, though, and this proved to be a source of strength. But it originated from the sentiment "thank God I don't have to wear a dress!"

The Australian-British actress, who portrayed Beth Brennan in the Australian-British soap series "Neighbours," had anxieties about her music career and racked up significant debt chasing her passion.

She recalled how she was unable to obtain a work permit or obtain employment.

When she secured her record deal, her UK visa was already set to expire and she already owed her landlady $2,000."

She explained the origins of her impostor syndrome to as early as when she had attended theater school as a child. She was a trained actor but in comparison to what she was attempting to do [as an artist], that felt a bit cheesy to her. Thus, she was unable to combine these concepts in her mind.

Imbruglia explained how she lost some "confidence" following a difficult period during which her fourth album 'Come To Life' - on which she collaborated with Coldplay's Chris Martin - flopped in Australia, its UK and US releases were cancelled, and she withdrew from the public spotlight.

In 2015, she released a collection of covers of songs by male musicians titled "Male," but she would not release her own music for another three years. The 2021 album "Firebird" was the consequence of her rediscovering her self-confidence and pride in her singing during a writing trip to Nashville.

"It's been a blink," she told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield regarding the 1997 single last month.
She said she had no clue of its significance, She even stated that she believed her experience on "Neighbours" would impede her progress, adding because she came from a soap opera, she believed people would treat me poorly.

Viewers were delighted with Natalie's presence, which included a performance of the famous song in the studio, with several tweeting she has aged like fine wine.
