One of John Lennon's potential last messages became a hot topic as it made his friend emotional.

The Beatles lost Lennon for good when he was murdered in 1980. Before the world bid goodbye to him at that time, his friend from Liverpool approached him hours before the assassination to rekindle their relationship.

The pal, who asked Lennon to work with him, got emotional after seeing the "Hey Jude" hitmaker's letter.

In an exclusive interview with Express UK, legendary photographer Ian Wright talked about reconnecting with Lennon and how they grew up together. He also reminisced how the late singer once teased him over riding his bike in Liverpool.

In the year of Lennon's death, Wright was working for The Sunday Times and The Times in New York, which was near where Lennon and Yoko Ono lived.

His editor reportedly asked him to have an exclusive interview with the "Don't Let Me Down" crooner. With that, he left a note on The Dakota Building that read: "John Lennon, you remember me? Wrighty, the kid on the bike!"

He also said through the telegram that he wanted to take Lennon's photo for a magazine article.

"I got back on the Sunday [7th December], but I didn't go back into the office until Tuesday morning - and by this time, he had been murdered [on Monday, December 8th]," he went on.

Wright reportedly received a handwritten letter from Lennon, which he still has.

"Here, I'm living with Yoko [Ono] at The Dakota apartments. I'd love to do it, phone me," Lennon wrote in the letter he made a day before he was murdered.

After reading it, he cried hard as he lost a good friend.

What Happened to John Lennon?

Lennon was entering a Manhattan apartment building when his fan and murderer, Mark David Chapman, shot him four times at a close range.

Chapman stayed at the scene until paramedics and the police arrived, saying that he killed Lennon after commenting that "The Beatles were more popular than Jesus" in one of his interviews. He admitted to planning the murder for months and waiting for the singer at The Dakota.

He also stayed beside Lennon while reading "The Catcher in the Rye" - the book that inspired his brutal killing.

Lennon was still able to be rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival on Dec. 8, 1980, at 11:15 p.m. His doctors tried to revive him for 20 minutes, but the bullets already shredded his internal organs.
