Carly was the third of four children; Joanna was the eldest, who was born in 1936, and Lucy followed in 1940. Carly followed five years after in 1945, and their youngest and only brother, Peter Simon.

Last Thursday, October 20, many were surprised by the announcement of Lucy's death. Lucy Simon's cause of death was metastatic breast cancer. She died at 82 years old.

Lucy was primarily known for her work on Broadway as a composer. She had been nominated for a Tony because of her Original Score in "The Secret Garden."

But before venturing into theatre, she and Carly started as the Simon Sisters, a folk music sister duo in Provincetown, Massachusetts. During their stint together, they have successfully released three studio albums, including "Meet the Simon Sisters," whose single "Winkin', Blinkin' And Nod" reached No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the early 80s, Lucy scored her first GRAMMY with her husband, David Levine, for their Best Recording for Children for "In Harmony." They won in the same category again in 1983.

In 1981, Lucy Simon won a Grammy with her husband David Levine in Best Recording for Children for "In Harmony," winning the award again in 1983 for the album's sequel.

Lucy left the world, leaving her husband Davide, her daughter Julie, grandchildren Ben, Sophie, Charlie, and Evie, and her sister Carly.

Two days before her passing, their eldest, Joanna Simon, also passed away because of thyroid cancer. Joanna was 85 and died in Piermont, New York. (via New York Times)

Like Carly and Lucy, Joanna pursued a career in music too. She was a pioneer and a pillar in early opera music. She won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Marian Anderson Award in her debut year in 1962.

Joanna had also starred in performances and concerts with the New York Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and New York City Opera, among many others.

Carly is now the only alive out of the four Simon siblings as their youngest sibling and only brother, Peter, passed away in 2018 at 71 years old, also because of cancer.
