Demi Lovato slayed her role in "Camp Rock," which is why there's a sequel to it. Her vocals just fit the character's storyline - but according to a recent report, the singer was NOT even considered for the role at first. Disney officials wanted her then friend, Selena Gomez. The latter gave way, Lovato did great, and her music and acting career bloomed afterwards.
Selena Gomez's on-screen father asserts that the former Disney Channel actress turned down the part that made Demi Lovato a household name. David DeLuise, who portrayed Gomez's father in "Wizards of Waverly Place," stated that the "Camp Rock" role of Mitchie Torres was initially offered to the "My Mind and Me" documentary star.
According to him, Gomez knew that if she turned it down, Demi would win the role. Therefore, she declined, which was a very gracious gesture. He also said that the former child stars were good friends at the time since they appeared on "Barney" together.
The 2008 film, which also featured the Jonas Brothers, was released one year after Gomez, 30, received her big break in "Wizards of Waverly Place" as Alex Russo.

Lovato's career, on the other hand, had not yet reached the same heights, and DeLuise seemed to imply that Gomez was giving Lovato's career a boost.
The "Skyscraper" singer's appearance in the Disney Channel Original film was quickly followed by a sequel, "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam." This also led to her own television series, "Sonny With A Chance," and a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
Fans were divided over the news, which resurfaced on Monday when the "Wildchat Sports" podcast uploaded a tape on TikTok. Some said it did not matter if she was not the original choice, because she did the role justice. This meant it was meant for her, and the universe worked in mysterious ways to make sure she got it.
Others think that this bit could further make the two drift further apart now.
The two Texas natives slowly grew away over the years, with Lovato declaring in 2020 that the duo were no longer pals. She's not friends with her even though she has love for her, she stated in an interview with Harper's Bazaar at the time.
At present, Selena Gomez has said she only considers Taylor Swift her friend in the industry. This triggered a bad reaction from Francia Raisa, who actually donated a kidney to Gomez when she needed it.
