Rob Caggiano looked back at the reason why he chose to leave Anthrax nearly a decade after his official departure.

Caggiano had an on-and-off stint with Anthrax. He first joined the band in 2001 before leaving in 2005. He then returned in 2007 and exited in 2013.

The band's former lead guitarist no longer took steps back after that decision, and he recently opened up about it even more in a new interview.

On Metalshop TV's "10 Questions" video interview, Caggiano - who is now a guitarist for Volbeat - detailed what led him to leave Anthrax and join Volbeat instead.

"I decided to leave Anthrax back then because I kind of felt like... At that point I had been in the band for a long time, and I kind of felt like my role in the band ran its course, so to speak. And I just kind of felt like I was hitting my head up against a glass ceiling for a long time. And it just felt like I needed a change," he said, as quoted by Blabbermouth.

This somewhat resonated with what he said in 2013. At that time, the musician said he just was not happy with Anthrax anymore.

According to Caggiano, he no longer felt inspired, although he clarified that he loves his bandmates and the time he spent with them.

Instead of staying, he decided to move on and do something else. Fortunately, he found what he was looking for in Volbeat.

Rob Caggiano Speaks Highly of Volbeat's Music

Earlier in the interview, the guitarist also talked about Volbeat's music and revealed what he found in the band that was appealing.

The musician said Volbeat's music offers a mixture of the sounds that he likes. After hearing the band's songs, he felt and heard everything in one package.

Caggiano even said that he heard several bands in Volbeat's projects, including Metallica, Ramones, Misfits, and Slayer.

In the end, he said that playing with Volbeat has been a lot of fun as the music they create connects with people. With that, he continues to dedicate himself to the band.

Caggiano, so far, already became part of the band's four albums. He participated in the latest album, "Servant of the Mind," in 2021.

Meanwhile, tabbed Shadows Fall guitarist Jonathan Donais replaced him in Anthrax when he left in 2013.
