According to Newsweek, the hashtag began after the "Praying" hitmaker accused Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald of sexual and emotional abuse in 2014.

Petras' recent tweets caused thousands of fans to defend the pop star and made the #FreeKesha trend again.

"Reminder that Kesha is still not free.. the man that abused her for years is still trying to traumatize her again by dragging through the same court system that failed her," one wrote.

Kesha then expressed her gratitude to her supporters by simply tweeting, "Thank you."

What Happened to Kesha?

Per the outlet, the story began when a 17-year-old Kesha moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a career in music. She recorded tracks under Kemosabe Records, a label by Sony Music, and Dr. Luke was her album's producer.

Her debut album "Animal" was released in 2010, but four years later, she filed a lawsuit against the famed producer. She alleged that Dr. Luke drugged and assaulted her, leading her to suffer from an eating disorder.

The pop star wanted to be free from her contract with the record label, but the producer filed a countersuit to deny all the claims.

A New York Supreme Court denied Kesha's request for a preliminary injunction in 2016, meaning she couldn't record music outside her current record label until the case was finalized.

Many celebrities came to Kesha's defense and supported her like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and many more.

At the time, the "Tik Tok" hitmaker posted a bombshell Instagram post, saying that she got offered her freedom if she were to lie about her situation.

I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again," she wrote in the caption.
