The Beatles member, George Harrison, left the music industry for good when he died 21 years ago.

Among The Beatles members, Harrison was considered the quiet one that he earned the nickname "the quiet Beatle." Despite that, he made some of the most famous songs the band ever released, including "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Here Comes the Sun," "Something," "Within You Without You," and "Taxman."

Although The Beatles disbanded, he continued his solo works until he died in 2001. As his loved ones and fans remembered him on his 21st death anniversary, his cause of death also scored the spotlight again.

George Harrison's Cause of Death

On Nov. 29, 2001, The Beatles' fans received heartbreaking news about George Harrison's death.

Multiple news outlets disclosed that he died after his long battle with cancer. He first discovered the dreaded disease when he noticed a lump on his neck.

"I got it purely from smoking. I gave up cigarettes many years ago but had started again for a while and then stopped in 1997. Luckily for me they found that this nodule was more of a warning than anything else. It reminds you that anything can happen," he said at that time.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer, leading him to undergo radiotherapy immediately.

Years later, he and his wife, Olivia, survived the attack at their home. The culprit, a 34-year-old man named Michael Abram, was reportedly suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. He used a kitchen knife to harm the two, with Harrison sustaining more than 40 stab wounds and a punctured lung.

In 2001, it was reported that the Beatles singer underwent an operation to remove a cancerous growth from one of his lungs. He then started treatment for a brain tumor in Switzerland.

It did not take him long before his doctor found out that his non-small cell lung cancer spread to his brain. Amid his radiotherapy, he died at Paul McCartney's property in Beverly Hills at the age of 58.

This year, his wife, Olivia Harrison, remembered him by sharing a clip featuring a photo of Harrison and the song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" played in the background.

His fans, on the other hand, shared photos of him and expressed how broken they still feel decades after losing him.
