Singer and actress Georgia Holt, Cher's mother, has died. She was 96.

Cher confirmed the saddening news in a Twitter post on Saturday, writing the words "Mom is gone" with a sad emoji.

The statement did not reveal Georgia Holt's cause of death and when exactly she passed away. But Variety noted that the crooner was admitted to a hospital in September following a pneumonia diagnosis caused by her recurring health struggles.

The "If I Could Turn Back Time" singer also shared an update at that time. She explained she had been missing in action because of her mother's on-and-off sickness. Still, she assured everyone that the matriarch was getting better.

It remains unknown whether this contributed to her death. Details about her funeral and memorial services are not yet available to the public.

As Cher and her family face the tragic moment in her life, colleagues and fans extended their warm messages to the bereaved family and paid tribute to Holt.

Georgia Holt's Legacy

Holt, born Jackie Jean Crouch, started pursuing her music career at the age of six. She first sang on an Oklahoma City radio station before having the chance to collaborate with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys when she was 10.

In the years before starting her acting journey, she already won several talent and beauty competitions.

In 1950, she had an uncredited role in the movie "A Life of Her Own." She also became part of "Watch the Birdie."

Her appearance in the two flicks led her to be tapped on several films and TV shows, including "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," "Grounds for Marriage," "I Love Lucy," "Superstars and their Moms," "Father's Little Dividend," and "Artists and Models."

Holt recorded the album "Honky Tonk" in 1980 with the help of Elvis Presley's band. However, it was not released until 2013, after her master tapes were found in her garage.

In 1978, she sat for an interview with PEOPLE Magazine and opened up about being signed by a record company because she is Cher's mother.

"I know that a record company might want to sign me just because I'm Cher's mother. I'd like to have a career, but I'm not going to be a novelty or a flash in the pan. A lot of people say I can do it," she said.

In the years leading to her death, Holt and Cher usually sang together and even appeared in the Mother's Day Lifetime documentary, "Dear Mom, Love Cher."
