Q Lazzarus never hit the mainstream with her music, despite the song, that was and forever will be linked to her name, "Goodbye Horses," being a cult classic.

Q Lazzarus was born Diane Luckey on Dec. 12, 1960, in New Jersey. She found her passion and love for singing while she attended church, where she sang in the youth choir.

By the age of 18, she had already decided that she will pursue a career in music and worked several while she worked on making a name for herself in music, including being a taxi driver, a housekeeper, an au pair, and more.

Ironically, it was during one of the taxi rides which gave her music career its official start.

According to Pitchfork, filmmaker Jonathan Demme was riding Q Lazzarus' taxi when he heard her playing music and asked who was the singer.

She replied, "well, thank you very much, it's me."

Since then, the course of her music career has shifted. Her song "The Candle Goes Away" was included in Demme's 1986 movie "Something Wild."

"Goodbye Horses," arguably her most famous song, was featured in "Married to the Mob," released in 1988, but was more well-known to be linked with the 1991 hit movie "The Silence of the Lambs."

Reclusive Singer

Despite having a number of her songs being used in movies, Q Lazzarus still struggled to land a record deal, which led her to retreat from the public eye in 1996.

That is perhaps why not much is known about the singer, and why her death was announced a month after her passing.

It was how late the reports on her death were that shocked people more than the singer's death itself.

While there are still a lot of questions surrounding Q Lazzarus' death and life as a recluse, these questions might be answered very soon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a documentary about the singer will soon be released in 2023. It will follow her life as a private person as well as a musician and will include some songs that have never been released to the public.

"We were just preparing to film the final scenes when she tragically and unexpectedly passed away," said Eva Aridjis, a filmmakers and close friend of the singer.

"As her collaborator, I am now more determined than ever to get her incredible story and amazing music out into the world."

According to reports, during the time of her demise, the singer had an estimated net worth of $5 million.
