Freddie Mercury's last song has a heartfelt history.

Queen lost its frontman when Mercury died in 1987 at the age of 45 following his battle with AIDS. Despite his declining health, the singer showed up in front of his fans and sang like he was not suffering at all.

In addition, Mercury continued working on music and recording them alongside his bandmates - John Deacon, Roger Taylor, and Brian May.

A few years after his death, Queen released "Made in Heaven" posthumously in 1995. It included the last song he wrote and made with the band - "A Winter's Tale." The singer reportedly created it while staring out of windows in Montreux and during his stay in his hospital bed in Lake Geneva.

"Freddie wrote the song in Montreux, in a little house on the lake that we called The Duck House," May said of the track. "The extraordinary thing is he's talking about life and its beauty at a time when he knows he hasn't got very long to go, yet there's no wallowing in emotion, it's just absolutely purely observed."

May explained that he recorded his guitar part after Mercury died. Although the singer wanted the music to be completed before starting the vocal arrangement, he worked on it after realizing he might not have enough time to accomplish it.

Freddie Mercury's Emotional Last Days

Apart from his last song, his final days also left everyone emotional.

Before he passed away, only his close friends and family members were allowed to visit him and see him. One of them was Austin, whom he always called the "love of my life."

Mercury reportedly wanted to spend his last days with Austin as he loved her so much that he entrusted her with his ashes. She then visited him every day along with the "Bohemian Rhapsody" hitmaker's close friend, Dave Clarke.

Upon seeing the singer, Austin wished something had happened the other way, wanting to die first so Mercury would do the missing instead. Although they never got together legally, she felt like they got married when the crooner died.

Although Austin had always been his greatest love, he spent his last days with his live-in partner, Jim Hutton. He met him when Hutton was working as a hairdresser. However, it was indicated in the 2018 film "Bohemian Rhapsody" that they first met at a London club in 1985.
