It looks like Broadway gets dimmer and dimmer in the coming months as another well-loved Broadway show is set to switch off its marquees.

Almost Famous: The Musical" has recently announced that it will be taking its final curtain call on Jan. 8, 2023.

"Almost Famous, like the music it celebrates, will endure. We look forward to the release of the cast recording on March 17, and to the many productions in communities across the country and world, for years to come," the producers said in a statement as quoted by Playbill.

Despite the material coming off from the iconic Oscar-winning flick of the same title, the show didn't do well on the box-office grosses on Broadway.

Opening on Broadway last Nov. 3, 2022, "Almost Famous," started previews last Oct. 3, 2022. In total, the show played 30 previews and 77 performances.

According to a report from Playbill, "Almost Famous: The Musical," raked only $765,060 in grosses in the week of December 11.

Although it was said to be a decent earning, it does not suffice the costs of running the entire production.

The closure may seem like an end of an era for the production, but their music will be immortalized. On Mar. 17, 2023, the official Broadway Cast Recording of the show will be released.

The original Broadway cast includes Broadway stars Solea Pfeiffer and Chris Wood in the leading roles of Penny Lane and Russel Hammond.

William Miller, Anika Larsen, Drew Gehling, and Rob Colletti are also in the cast.

Despite coming from an iconic film, critics are in unison that the show "Almost Famous" was lackluster, short on the star quality that the movie is full of.

"Those classic bits are all still here, yes, but they're a wisp of the original. British director Jeremy Herrin, who should stick to plays and steer clear of Stratocasters, composer-lyricist Tom Kitt and book writer-lyricist Crowe do not present a compelling case for why the film must be a Broadway musical. It's pleasant and sweet and passes the time, sure, but should that be enough?" The New York Post said.

"The production's curtain call, in which each of the characters belts out a line of "Fever Dog" for their final bow is inspired, free-wheeling, unexpected fun. If only the rest of the show had done more of the same," Entertainment Weekly said about the show.

Aside from "Almost Famous," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "KPOP" is also slated to close their doors next year, citing various reasons for their closing.
