2023 is a new year for everyone, especially for Broadway!

After shaking the world with the shocking announcements last year: from the Lea Michele, Beanie Feldstein "Funny Girl" drama, Patti LuPone actor's equity exit, and the closures of many well-loved shows, everything was very eventful!

Now, the new year is signaling a new start, Act 1, for some, on their fresh start on Broadway at the Big Apple.

One of the most anticipated plays from Broadway is "Pictures From Home." Starring three theatre veterans, the play will bring to life the iconic photo memoir by Larry Sultan. Primetime Emmy Award-winning Nathan Lane, Tony Award Hall of Fame Danny Burnstein, and Olivier Award winner Zoë Wanamaker will be leading the play opening on Feb. 9, 2023.

Perhaps one of the most controversial in the bunch is Andrew Lloyd Webber's reimagined retelling of the fairytale classic. Straying away from the original material, "Bad Cinderella" puts the curfew-ridden princess as the rule breaker, hence the title. Originating the role would be Carrie Hope Fletcher, eyeing an open for Mar. 23, 2023.

Annaleigh Ashford and Josh Groban are set to don the iconic role of the beloved slasher story. Decked with other well-known Broadway vets like Jordan Fisher, Ruthie Ann Miles, and Gaten Matarazzo, among many others. The revival production will also see Jonathan Tunick's classic 26-player orchestration at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Mar. 26, 2023.

If you're keeping up with the latest Broadway news, you would know that Lin Manuel Miranda is involved in "New York, New York." Although he is not the main lead or the writer of the whole musical, he will be providing additional lyrics to the glittering love letter to the greatest city in the world. The St. James Theatre will be opening its curtains again on Apr. 26, 2023.

"Bad Cinderella" might not be the only fairytale coming to life this year on Broadway. On "Once Upon A One More Time," the show will cover the songs of pop princess Britney Spears, hitting all the right tempos and feels with the new revisionist fairy tale. The Marquis Theatre will be lighting its marquees again on Jun. 22, 2023.
