45-year-old artist Shakira used New Year's day as an opportunity to hit out at former husband Gerard Pique, London Insider reported on Tuesday.

The pair, after over a decade of marriage, announced their separation in June of 2022, with them releasing a joint statement.

In it, they said doing what is best for their two kids would be their "maximum priority."

The Barcelona defender is already moving on, with him dating a 23-year-old student and being spotted with her in public on several occasions.

Shakira, meanwhile, fired a sly jibe at Pique in her New Year's message that she shared in a post on Instagram, as she opened up on healing from "betrayal", alluding to the footballer cheating on her.

"Even if our are still open in this new year, time has surgeon's hands. Even if someone has betrayed us, we must continue to trust others," she wrote.

"When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth. Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference," she added.

In late 2022, Shakira and Pique were both in court to work out a custody arrangement for their two kids - Milan and Sasha, who are 7 and 9, respectively.

They entered the court separately with their individual lawyers and legal teams, and agreed on a custody arrangement after over 10 hours of discussions.

It is understood that Shakira wanted to move with her two kids back to Miami, while Pique will continue to live in Barcelona.

The FC Barcelona legend eventually agreed, according to reports.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the villa where the couple previously resided with their two kids in Barcelona has been listed on the market as part of their divorce settlement.

Pique emotionally retired from football in late 2022, at the age of 35.

He has various business ventures which he will continue to work on following his retirement from professional football.
