What led to Noel Gallagher and Sara MacDonald's split?

Gallagher and MacDonald shocked the world when they announced in a statement on Monday that they were getting a divorce after 12 years of marriage.

"Noel and Sara will together continue to look after their children who remain their priority," a spokesperson told People. "Noel and Sara ask the media to respect their privacy and that of our family at this time."

The representative did not disclose the reason why the now-ex-couple split, but The Sun on Sunday reported that their relationship had been "on the rocks."

According to the news outlet, their friends started thinking about whether Gallagher's trip to Glastonbury Festival last summer became MacDonald's last straw. Unnamed sources added that the matriarch had enough when Gallagher pulled an all-nighter at Worthy Farm alongside his friends, including Rita Ora.

Fans, on the other hand, offered mixed reactions regarding the split.

Some also assumed that the divorce might be a sign Gallagher would mark his reunion with his band, Oasis. However, no confirmation has been released as of press time.

Gallagher and MacDonald tied the knot in a private ceremony in New Forest, England, in June 2011. They initially met in 2000 at a nightclub in Ibiza.

The pair share sons Donovan, 15, and Sonny, 12.

In an interview with British Vogue in 2020, the musician took his time to recall their first meeting and how they started talking. Per Gallagher, he asked for her number when they shared a taxi after their meeting at a nightclub.

Will Noel Gallagher Return to Oasis?

Although his divorce from his wife sparked rumors about his potential return to Oasis, Gallagher constantly dismissed the possibility and said "there is no point" for a reunion.

Speaking with the Pub Talk podcast in October, the musician said it would need "a set of extraordinary circumstances" before fans could see Oasis perform together again.

"Oasis sell as many records now, per year, as we did when we were together," he said. "We're as popular now, in the eyes of the people, as we ever were and I'm happy with it. If we got back together, it would be a circus and there's no point. Just leave it as it is."

Oasis disbanded in 2009 after performing for 18 years.
