Nick Carter was accused of sexually assaulting a woman over 21 years ago, but he and his legal team strongly insist that she is simply trying to ruin his reputation and it's all lies.

"As our Counterclaim sets out in detail, Nick has been the target of a malicious and long-running conspiracy," said Michael Holtz, Carter's lawyer.

"He has never done the outrageous things of which he has been accused; in fact, he is the victim of a calculated and concerted disinformation campaign designed to destroy his reputation."

The legal documents obtained declare his innocence and denounce her lies, noting that the initial case was a "culmination of a years-long conspiracy to take him down."

Carter is now seeking $2.35 million in damages, Rollingstone reported, noting the baseless accusations have cost him as well as his band's appearances and deals.

Sexual Assault Claims

Back in December 2022, the accuser, Shannon Ruth filed a sexual assault case against the Backstreet Boys singer.

She claimed that the singer invited her to his tour bus and offered her a "red-colored drink," after that, the alleged incident occurred.

"After he raped me, I remember him calling me a 'retarded bitch' and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm," Ruth said during a press conference.

However, Carter and his legal team pointed out that her story has inconsistencies and put Ruth's credibility to question, noting that her story" changed repeatedly and materially over time."

Moreover, Carter's legal team accused Melissa Schuman-another woman who alleged the singer sexually assaulted her-and her father of "grooming" and "coaching" a vulnerable and highly impressionable" Ruth, who is autistic.

On the other hand, her lawyer, Mark Boskovich, had this to say: "Why should Nick Carter be believed with his long history of abusing females? A jury will weigh the evidence and decide."

According to reports, this is not the first time Carter faced sexual assault allegations, and he has never been charged in regard to those accusations.

According to reports, despite the filed police report against the singer in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office refused to prosecute because the statute of limitations expired back in 2013.
